Unit price perRed kiwi is a natural mutation of the gold kiwi variety, discovered in China in the 1980s and only recently introduced to California commercial production. The flesh is golden with vivid red streaks near the seeds, firmer and sweeter than standard green kiwi, with a complex flavor profile — sweet and subacid with notes of raspberry and blackberry. Wild River calls theirs “Berry Red Kiwi” and measures them at over 20 brix, which is exceptionally high for kiwi.
Wild River Fruit is a three-generation certified organic farm on 400 acres in Marysville, CA, in the flood plain of the Yuba and Feather Rivers — which flow down from the Sierras and overflow every decade or so, continuously building some of the most fertile soil in the Sacramento Valley. Founded by Gordon Noland and now run by his grandson Travis, Wild River has been certified organic since 1992 and is the largest organic kiwifruit grower in California. They were among the first in the state to grow gold and red kiwi varieties, constructing shade structures to create the microclimate these varieties need to thrive in California’s dry summers.
