Hikari Farms
Fresh Turmeric (clamshell)
$8
Unit price / perFresh turmeric looks like a knobby, orange-fleshed cousin of ginger — and it tastes like it too, with an earthy warmth, a slight bitterness, and a vivid golden color that stains everything it touches. More nuanced and complex than the dried powder. Grate or slice into golden milk, rice dishes, soups, smoothies, or dressings. Rich in curcumin, the compound associated with turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties.
Hikari Farm is a certified organic greenhouse operation in Watsonville, CA, founded by Akira Nagamine, who arrived in the United States in 1956 from Kagoshima, Japan, with $24 in his pocket and founded his own farm in 1967. Today the farm is run by his daughter Janet, a physician who returned to continue the family legacy.
