Full Belly Farm
Tibetan Purple Barley Berries
$7
Unit price perAn ancient heirloom grain with roots tracing back thousands of years to the Himalayan highlands of Tibet — and ultimately to the Nile River Valley. The deep purple color comes from anthocyanins, the same antioxidant compounds found in blueberries and blackberries. Hulless and whole grain, with a chewy, satisfying texture and a deep, earthy, nutty flavor similar to wheat berries. Use in grain bowls, soups, salads, or anywhere you'd use barley or farro. Soak overnight before cooking to reduce cook time.
Full Belly Farm was established in 1984 by Dru Rivers and Paul Muller on 400 acres in the Capay Valley of Northern California, certified organic since 1985. Now in its second generation with the Muller family at the helm, the farm grows over 100 different crops including fruits, vegetables, nuts, and flowers, with roughly 80 employees year-round.
