Yerena Farms
Raspberries (clamshell)
$8
Unit price perApolinar "Poli" Yerena was born in Jalisco, Mexico, into four generations of farmers. He began working as a strawberry picker in 1967 and eventually leased his own farm in Watsonville with his brother Gilberto. They started conventionally in 1982, but converted to organic after the fruit sold so well they never looked back — transitioning the entire farm to 100% organic. Today Yerena Farms is run by Poli, his wife Silvia, and their children on 17 acres in Watsonville. The farm's proximity to the ocean means fog most of the time, which slows ripening and deepens flavor in the berries. Their raspberries are plump, bright, and intensely sweet — the kind that are gone within a day or two, and worth every bit of the rush.
Note about packaging: We also dislike the plastic containers, but these raspberries are very delicate, so they will travel better in plastic clamshells.
