He began working as a strawberry picker in 1967 and eventually leased his own farm in Watsonville with his brother Gilberto. They converted to organic after the fruit sold so well they never looked back — and today Yerena Farms is run by Poli, his wife Silvia, and their children on 17 acres in Watsonville, where ocean fog slows ripening and deepens flavor in the berries. Each week, the team selects whichever raspberry variety is tasting best right now.
Note about packaging: We also dislike the plastic containers, but these raspberries are very delicate, so they will travel better in plastic clamshells.
