They grow around 40 varieties of nectarine, all hand-picked and tree-ripened. The vineyard-quality soil, rolling hills, and hot days with cool nights of the Newcastle foothills create fruit that is rich in sugar and full of flavor. Yellow nectarines are bolder and more aromatic than their white counterparts — higher in acid, with a bright tanginess that balances their deep, honeyed sweetness and a firm flesh that holds up beautifully at peak ripeness.
This half flat is approximately 4.5–5 lbs, with an average of 12–15 nectarines. Because these are harvested to order and ripened naturally on the tree, nectarine size varies week to week — expect anywhere from 12 to 15 nectarines per half flat.
For the best eating experience, leave them on the counter for 1–2 days to finish ripening. Because fully ripe yellow nectarines bruise very easily, they must be harvested just before peak ripeness — a delicate balance that rewards a little patience. Stone fruit season is short — enjoy them while they last.
