The Elephant Heart is a California original — developed by legendary plant breeder Luther Burbank at his Sonoma County farm and named for its dramatic, heart-shaped silhouette. The skin ripens from green-bronze to deep reddish-purple, and the flesh inside is a vivid blood red: dense, juicy, freestone, and intensely flavored with notes of vanilla and berries. Considered by California Clean Growers to be one of the best eating plums around, and rarely found outside of a farmers market.
