Rio Zape Beans (1lb bag)

New!

Rio Zape beans were found during archaeological excavations of cliff dwellings once inhabited by the Zuni Pueblo peoples of New Mexico, and later inside a sealed tomb in Rio Zape, Mexico in the 1960s — making them one of the oldest cultivated bean varieties still in production. Similar to a pinto bean but with a richer, more complex flavor, denser texture, and a darker, deeply savory broth. Certified organic and grown on the farm in San Gregorio, CA. 1 lb dry bag.

Blue House Farm was founded in 2005 by first-generation farmer Ryan Casey in Pescadero, CA, after studying agriculture and training at the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems. The farm grows over 30 varieties of certified organic heirloom beans across two coastal sites in San Gregorio and Pescadero, alongside vegetables, flowers, and fruit.
